MISTAKE #1 // WANTING RESULTS TOO SOON

We’ve all been there before, that craving to be in the best shape of your life… tomorrow! Well, don’t worry, you’re not alone. Wanting results too soon is the single most common hurdle I have witnessed from training 1000’s of clients over the last 14 years. The advice here is simple:

“If you have let your exercise plan slip away for the last 6 or 12 months or longer, you can’t expect to see results in 7 days.”

 

If you expect to have an 8 pack after 7 days of hard training, you set yourself up for disappointment. This leads to frustration, self doubt and eventually giving up all together. It can become a vicious cycle if you don’t prepare yourself to break free from it. 

The good news is that our bodies are extremely adaptive to change, so any exercise you add to your day is putting you on the path to your goals. Every little bit counts.

The secret to reaching your fitness goal instead of becoming frustrated and giving up, can be as simple as managing your expectations.

Here’s what to do:

  1. Instead of planning on seeing results, plan on staying committed to your workouts, no matter what. 
  2. Instead of seeing your workouts as a punishment, aim to enjoy moving your body, or testing your strength, or challenging your fitness.
  3. Instead of getting frustrated, allow yourself to make mistakes, learn, and grow. 
  4. Instead of talking negatively to yourself if you miss a workout, encourage yourself to try again tomorrow.
  5. Instead of exercising to get in shape as fast as possible, give yourself more time and create a daily lifestyle that you love.
